Math New Drill : Level 2 SNJ00-0812-L2 Election of representative of the class

3 people of Taro, Jiro, and Hanako ran for the election of one representative in a class.
There are 45 students in this class.
Every student voted one with the name of one person.
The table below shows the number of votes of three when 20 votes are counted.
How many more votes does Hanako need to win certainly?

Answer
15 votes

Solution
Hanako has to obtain votes more than Jiro who got votes most at present to be elected. Remaining number of votes is 45 - 20 = 25 votes.
Hanako needs 9 - 5 = 4 votes to catch up with Jiro.
Remaining number of votes is 25 - 4 =21 votes.
Hanako should obtain 10 + 1 = 11 votes among 21 votes according to calculation of 21/2 = 10 with remainder 1.
Therefore the number of votes to find is 4 + 11 = 15 votes.
