Math New Drill (Level 2) : Sum and Difference SNJ00-0608-L2 Put candies in boxes

There are some candies and some boxes.

When 5 candies are put in each box, 92 candies are left.

When 8 candies are put in each box, less than 8 candies are put in 1 box and 16 boxes with no candy are left.

When 7 candies are put in each box, several boxes and several candies are left.

Find the number of the candy.

Answer
467 pieces

Solution
The number of the box is set to be x pieces.

According to (8 - 5) × x = 92 + 8 × 17 = 228, (8 - 5) × x is more than 220 and less than 227 (228 - 1= 227), and moreover it is a multiple of 3.

Or it is 222 or 225.

Thus, the number of the box is 222 / 3 = 74 or 225/ 3 = 75.

The number of the candy is 74 × 5 + 92 = 462 or 75 × 5 + 92 = 467.

462 is a multiple of 7, so when 7 candies are put in each box, no candy is left.

Therefore the number of the candy to be found is 467.
