The reason is due to the difference in salt concentration in the fish cells. Salt concentration in the cells of the saltwater fish is lower than the salinity of seawater. By osmotic pressure , water in the cells of seawater fish flows out rapidly to seawater. If it’s just as it is, a body is getting shrivel and dies. Therefore the saltwater fish drinks seawater and takes water in the body.
The cell of freshwater fish has higher salinity than fresh water and water comes into the body even if it does not drink water. Therefore it is not necessary to drink water in order to increase internal water.
